What gets cut first?
Openers like “I just wanted to let you know”, stacked qualifiers like “a little bit” and “kind of”, and anything said twice. Then long clauses get collapsed into short ones. Names, numbers, dates and the actual request are kept, because those are the parts the reader needs.
Shorten or Summarize?
Shorten keeps the voice and the format: a text stays a text, an email stays an email, just tighter. Summarize turns something long into a brief overview in its own words, which is what you want for an article or meeting notes, not for something you are about to send.
Can it go the other way?
Yes, Expand does the opposite and fills out a short draft with detail and context. Make punchier is in between: roughly the same length, stronger verbs and a sharper opening.
Where it works
On the TextAI keyboard as Shorten. Select the text you typed in iMessage, Mail or LinkedIn, tap Shorten and the shorter version replaces it. It is one of the most used keyboard tools because it fixes the “wall of text” problem right before you hit send.
