How is this different from Apple's Writing Tools?
Apple's Writing Tools proofread, rewrite and summarise selected text on devices that support Apple Intelligence. TextAI is narrower and deeper for messaging: replying to what someone sent, reading the subtext, flirting, apologising, saying no politely. It runs as a keyboard on iPhones with iOS 17 or later.
Can it see my messages?
Only what you give it. Like every iOS keyboard, it can see the text field, not the conversation, and it sends text only when you tap a tool. Your history stays on your iPhone. For context from the whole thread, use a screenshot with Reply with TextAI.
Does it work with SMS and group texts?
Yes. The keyboard does not care whether the bubble is blue or green; it works in any Messages conversation, including groups. It also works in the Messages search bar and anywhere else you type.
What do people use most in Messages?
Replying, by a wide margin. After that, fixing typos, changing tone and making long texts shorter. The reading tools, Decode a message and Is this flirting?, get used right before a reply, when the text you got is the hard part.
